FPHS
A Title I School

Title I is a federal program that provides additional funds to pay the salary of a reading teacher and a curriculum coach, to purchase classroom materials and supplies as well as parental involvement materials and supplies. Go to the "FILES" section on the right-hand side of this page and select "Title I Plan (CIP)" to view the 2010-2011 FPHS plan.

FPHS encourages parents of its students to be involved by completing and returning surveys/evaluations and by serving on various committees that meet during the year. Those committees review and update:
  • Compact(student/parent/teacher agreement)
  • The CIP (FPHS Title I Plan) which includes the FPHS Parent Involvement Plan
  • The system-wide Title I Plans and budget

Please contact Brian Jett, Principal, or Pat Horton,
Superintendent's Office if you are interested in serving on a Title I committee.

STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

FPHS faculty and staff use RESPONSE TO INTERVENTION (RTI) to guide the instruction of students, respond to attendance/truancy issues and student behavior. RTI is a multi-step (or tier) approach used in many schools across the country to match instruction and services to student need, monitoring progress often to make decisions about changes in instruction and/or goals.

RTI guides instruction at FPHS as follows:

  • TIER I describes opportunities and techniques available to ALL students through in a traditional classroom setting. For more information regarding Tier I, go to the "FILES" section on the right-hand side of this page and select the "Tier I, Student Support Services" file.

  • Tier II is the first level of extra assistance to struggling students. Students are given extra help in a small group format, often within the regular classroom. For more information about Tier II, go to the "FILES" section on the right-hand side of this page and select the "Tier II, Student Support Services" file.

  • Tier III is most intense level of assistance. Special section of courses are available for students requiring this level of help. For more information about Tier III, go to the "FILES" section on the right-hand side of this page and select the "Tier III, Student Support Services" file.

RTI guides Attendance/Truancy policy - Students who are absent must bring either a parent note or doctor's excuse to school within 3 days of return to school or absence will be determined to be unexcused. No more than 3 days per 9 weeks may be excused by parent note. Three unexcused tardies or checkouts will equal one unexcused absence. Go to the "FILES" section on the right-hand side of this page and select the "Attendance" file.

RTI guides Behavior Policy - FPHS responds to behavioral issues in a Tier-based manner.

TIER I:  Positive discipline, School Resource Officer,
             Graduation/PST (Problem Solving Team)
             Or Graduation Tracking System.
TIER II:  In School Suspension
TIER III:  DeKalb Youth Services
